Happy July 23rd Race Day

Its Race 4 today, and its shaping up to be a fantastic day expected to be 30 degrees at race time.

The weather is going to be great, and hopefully the racers will have a little of that wind from last Sunday left over? All our races this year have been under an hour. Some have been under 30 minutes so don’t think coming out is going to kill your whole afternoon – low wind or not. Marshals are setting short courses in low winds to avoid a “drifter”.

Last week we used the Portsmouth handicapper to judge finish times and we saw our first Albacore win in what I think might have been the best racing of the summer. The wind picked up in the nick of time for steady progress. 3 boats entered, Glenn Stanley-Paul and crew lead for most of the race in the cedar strip Albacore, only to be passed at the line by Bob Lytle in Barney the Hobie. The Reeves Hobie continued to struggle with poor starts this year. Reeves crossed the line last but did steadily close the gap during the single lap race. One lap wasn’t enough to catch the two veterans who set the pace.

Times were recorded into the Portsmouth and the the Stanley Paul Albacore is the winner! Hobies have the lowest multiplier in the Portsmouth for our lake, so they need to win by a pretty good margin to secure the 15 points. All you non-Hobie captains remember… sail and finish as quickly as you can because you are racing the clock, not just those other boats.

Open Update: Bob Lytle leads the championship with 29 pts, followed by Heather Sanders 906 and Reeves48 tied with 26, followed by Steve fellows with 23.

Jr Update: Tannis & Emily took over the Jr Championship lead by 14 points over Carter & Kylie. Stay tuned to twitter from the Chief marshals this weekend to see if he will hold a Jr race tomorrow. Remember, if the marshals set the course and nobody shows up, they wont keep that up for long.
